All media houses will be given a chance to cover Madaraka Day and other events without discrimination.

The Principal Secretary, State Department for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, Prof. Edward Kisiang’ani, said that the media plays a crucial role in highlighting issues in society and that there would be no discrimination against any media house as they would all be given a chance to cover the national day.

He was speaking in Bungoma during a Media breakfast meeting for all journalists ahead of Madaraka Day celebrations to be held at Masinde Muliro Stadium in Kanduyi in Bungoma County. The meeting was organised by the Ministry of Information.

The PS hailed the move by the government to host National events at the County level, saying it creates cohesion in the country as it gives citizens a chance to visit and interact with people from different communities.

The Western Regional Commissioner, Mr. Irungu Macharia, who was the guest of honour at the Media breakfast meeting, said that the government has put in place adequate security measures to ensure that the celebrations are held to the expected high standards.

Macharia said the gates to the stadium would be opened early enough to avoid overcrowding and asked residents to go early and occupy space in the stadium. He added that all the people who would enter the stadium would be screened for security purposes.

Irungu said that enough security personnel have been deployed and assured all residents and non-residents who would turn up for the event of their security.
