Kisii County government in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is conducting a workshop, aimed at developing policies that will promote service delivery and strengthen partnerships within Kisii Municipality.

The week-long forum spearheaded by the Department of Lands, Physical Planning, Housing and Urban Development has incorporated officers drawn from various departments, Kisii Municipality, office of the Governor and the national government’s State Department of Physical Planning.

The policies under review include the County Urban Institutional Development Strategy, County Climate Risk Profile, Kisii Municipality Integrated Development Plan (IDeP), County Private Sector Engagement Framework, Public Participation Policy and the Draft Waste Management Policy.

Speaking during the official opening of the workshop, Kisii County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for Lands, Physical Planning, Housing and Urban Development Grace Nyarango lauded FAO for supporting the development of the various policies.

“These policies are essential to the County headed by Governor Simba Arati and I urge officers present to actively engage in this exercise that will come up with documents that will be subjected to public participation,” said Nyarango.

This workshop is part of the Digital Land Governance Programme that is jointly funded by the European Union and FAO of the United Nations working collaboratively with the Council of Governors, Ministry of Lands, National Land Commission and other strategic partners.

The programme seeks to improve food and nutrition security, livelihoods and promote sustainable development through equitable and secure access, and management of land as per vision 2030.

FAO is implementing the five-year Digital Land Governance Programme following the successful implementation of the Lands Governance Programme, in collaboration with the CoG, Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development and National Lands Commission.

The 5 year programme commenced in the year 2022 and will end in the year 2027; covering all the 47 counties.
