The First Lady, Mama Rachel Ruto, has officially launched Jitume Digital Hub at Butere Girls’ High School, a project that was implemented by the Ministry of ICT and Digital Economy through the Konza Technopolis.

The First Lady cited the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, which also captures the seriousness of digitization under its Digital and Creative Economy Pillar, which is an enabler of the other Pillars, which are agriculture, micro, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), affordable housing, and universal healthcare.

Mama Rachel Ruto praised Konza Technopolis’ Jitume Project as one that will spur a wave of digital jobs across the nation, with over 28,000 users connected, over 8,700 courses enrolled, and 118 digital job platforms connected.

The Jitume Digital Hubs project is now fully operational.

Eliud Owalo, Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of ICT and Digital Economy, said that over 400,000 youth have been trained and over 139,000 digital jobs have been created in the last year.

This transformational project has the potential to solve the perennial unemployment in the nation. The ministry is on course to set up a digital centre in each of the 1450 wards in the country.

Other leaders present at the visit included Ayub Savula, the Deputy Governor of Kakamega County; Justice Hellen Wasilwa, Chairperson of Butere Girls’ High School Board of Management; and education sector stakeholders from Kakamega County.
