Jibril scaling Africa’s highest peak to feed Kenya’s elders

Ahmed Rashid Jibril is preparing to climb Africa’s highest peak, Mt. Kilimanjaro, on August 3rd.

This isn’t just a personal challenge—it’s a mission to support Kenya’s vulnerable seniors.

As the Chairman of 748 Air Services and Founder of Mama Ibado Charity, Jibril aims to raise awareness and funds for the Seniors Feeding Program, which has been a lifeline for many elderly Kenyans.

For the past 13 years, this program has provided essential food rations, healthcare support, and improved living standards for those aged 60 and above.

Jibril reflected on this noble cause, stating that the elderly are the pillars of our community, yet many face the harsh reality of hunger, something that cannot and should not be ignored.

He emphasized that as a fellow senior, he understands the dignity and respect that elderly persons deserve, and it is a noble responsibility to ensure that no senior goes to bed hungry, feeling abandoned or forgotten.

He believes that society owes it to the elderly to restore their dignity and support them in their twilight years.

The goal of this initiative is to raise Ksh 13 million (USD $100,000), which will provide essential food supplies for 1,000 seniors.

Jibril emphasized that each contribution, no matter how small, will make a significant difference in the lives of these seniors.

He reiterated that climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro is symbolic of the journey and struggles that seniors face every day.

Each step to the majestic peak will carry with it the hopes and dreams of those he aims to support.

Since its inception in 2011, Mama Ibado Charity’s Seniors Feeding Program has been providing monthly food rations to seniors, growing from supporting 50 individuals to now assisting 1,000 seniors in Isiolo and Kakamega Counties.

The Charity’s holistic approach not only focuses on nutritional support but also includes improved housing and access to quality healthcare.

Jibril called on the community to join hands in supporting this cause, highlighting the significant impact of the Seniors Feeding Program, which includes reduced malnutrition, increased longevity, improved family ties, and the empowerment of seniors to live dignified lives.

Through his Kilimanjaro climb, Jibril hopes to inspire others to contribute and ensure that Kenya’s seniors are not forgotten.

He affirmed that together, society can make a lasting difference in the lives of the elderly, ensuring they live out their years with the dignity and respect they deserve.

Among the 1,000 seniors benefiting from Mama Ibado Charity’s support is 72-year-old Wanjiru Njeri from Isiolo County.

She shared that the monthly food rations have been life-changing, as before the support from Mama Ibado, she often went days without proper meals.

Now, she has enough to eat, and her health has improved significantly.

Similarly, 68-year-old James Otieno from Kakamega County has seen improvements in his living conditions.

He expressed that the charity not only provides food but also helps with better housing, and his new roof doesn’t leak anymore, making him feel safer.

These personal stories underscore the transformative power of the Seniors Feeding Program.

The funds raised from Jibril’s Kilimanjaro climb will ensure that many more seniors like Wanjiru and James can live with dignity and security.

As Jibril prepares for his climb, the community’s support becomes ever more critical. His journey to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro is more than a physical challenge; it is a rallying call to address the urgent needs of Kenya’s elderly population.
