Public Service Head in Tree Planting drive – Kenya News Agency

Head Chief of the Public Service Mr. Felix Koskei last Friday  lead the staff at his office for a tree planting exercise at Nairobi as part of the government’s resolve and commitment to mitigate the ravages of climate change in the country.

The team planted at least 15,000 trees in selected sites within Nairobi County in line with recent presidential directive that public servants working in state agencies, corporations and ministries partake in the tree planting drives on rotational basis daily.

The move according to the Head of State was fast tract the attainment of the governments targeted of planting at least 15 billion tress by 2032 to improve forest cover to contain the looming impact of global warming in the wake of extreme weather patterns.

Koskei who was accompanied by his Principal Administrative Secretary, Arthur Osiya, Secretary Administration, Thomas Nyamorata warmed up the staff with a one hour session of aerobic exercise at Embakasi Garissson before embarking of the tree planting drive for the better part of the day.

He said the aerobic was a part of a comprehensive program aimed at promoting team building and enhancing physical fitness ahead of the task ahead at the team went on tree planting venture at the Bomas Beat, KWS National Park, APTC Utawala, and Embakasi Garrison.

“ This tree planting exercise is a long-term solution to mitigate the adverse effects of changing weather patterns and it symbolizes the collective commitment to the president’s ambitious goal of planting 15 billion trees over the next ten year “  Koskei said.

The Chief of staff expressed fears that the negative effects of climate change posed a threat to Kenya’s economic development towards the realization of vision 2030 and the Big 4 Agenda hence the urgency to address the global catastrophe.

The exercise comes after President Dr. William  directed Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) to work on modalities to ensure that staff from their respective were allocated dates  to engage in tree planting exercises on a daily basis for at least six months

President William Ruto has said the tree planting exercise will be done on a daily basis for the next six months, adding that each ministry will have its own days for planting trees.
